Mulled wine recipe: how to make traditional mulled wine and mulled wine with a touch of orange

Nothing says Christmas like a glass of hot mulled wine. For those looking for a traditional recipe or for those wishing to revisit the classic Welsh distillery Aber Falls has three great recipes for family and friends to try this festive season.

Method:

1. Put the red wine, cinnamon, star anise, cloves, lemon zest and sugar in a large saucepan. Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.

2. Remove the pan from the heat to cool and let steep for about 30 minutes.

3. To serve, heat again without boiling, add optional sloe gin and pour into heatproof mugs or glasses to enjoy.

Ingredients:

A red wine bottle

A large stick of cinnamon

Two anise stars

Four cloves

A bay leaf

An orange cut in half and squeezed

Half a lemon

Method:

1. Put a bottle of red wine, a star anise, four cloves, a bay leaf, a halved and squeezed orange, half a lemon and 25 ml of Aber Falls Orange Marmalade gin in a saucepan

2. Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to the boil, then simmer for 25 minutes

3. Garnish with a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick for a festive decor
